In 2009, the ESSEN MOTOR SHOW began to once again strengthen its orientation to its roots as the International Sports and Racing Car Exhibition. With an emotional advertising campaign, the vehicle fair quickly created a new image which now focuses on motorsport and automobile individuality. That is going down well: The numbers of visitors are rising; over 340,000 fans of motorsport, tuning, sporty series vehicles and classic cars came to Messe Essen in 2012.

"Tacken" is awarded by Marketing-Club Essen which distinguishes outstanding marketing and communication work with the prize. Companies from Essen, Mülheim, Oberhausen, Gelsenkirchen, Bottrop and Gladbeck can put themselves forward as candidates. In this respect, the term "Tacken" stands for that decisive little bit more which makes products and companies stand out from others. "Tacken 2013" was handed over within the framework of a ceremony in the GOP-Theater in Essen on March 11.

Zukunftsforum Wochenmarkt GmbH ("Future Forum on the Weekly Market") will be the ideal sponsor. In the future, the fair is to take place in Essen every two years. Egon Galinnis, Managing Director of Messe Essen GmbH: "We are glad that the event is now in Essen. Weekly markets offer not only the large number of shopping possibilities and absolute freshness but also a lot of products from the region as well as a high degree of individuality."

Zukunftsforum Wochenmarkt GmbH gave a successful premiere with the first trade fair for mobile trading in Cologne in 2011. As from 2013, the organiser would like to establish the fair in Essen as a sectoral meeting place and a networking platform. Werner Schnitzler from Zukunftsforum Wochenmarkt: "The Ruhr region with the density of cities and towns and thus also urban district markets is the perfect catchment area for our fair and we are happy to be represented in Essen now." The fair will be accompanied by an expert forum in which the latest trends, the newest customer and market requirements and future perspectives for mobile trading will be discussed.

The hotly awaited ticket sale will start on Thursday, January 17th at 6 pm in Germany, 12 pm in New York, and 9 am in San Francisco at www.starwarscelebration.eu. If you buy the tickets in advance, they will run between 45 Euros (one day ticket) and 95 Euros (3 day pass) for adults, children under 12 are eligible for a rebate.

The first Star Wars Celebration took place in Denver, Colorado in 1999 on the occsasion of the release of Epsiode 1 The Phantom Menace and has since developed into a regular meeting place for Star Wars fans from all over the world. „There is nothing like Celebration among events that celebrate pop culture and that’s because Star Wars fans give it a certain kind of magic“, so explains Mary Franklin, head of events at Lucasfilm, the phenomenon. „It’s not just that many fans show up in costume. They also organize entertaining events on their own, they create decorations, lead work shops and exhibit collectibles.“ The organizer doesn’t doubt that Celebration 2013 in Essen will be a success. „With the combined efforts of all our partners, licensees and fans and of course with the help of the hospitality of Essen we’ll turn this celebration into a great success.”

In addition to the victorious draft, two other works were awarded equal honours with a third prize worth Euro 84,500: Hascher Jehle Planungsgesellschaft mbH, Berlin, and HPP International Planungsgesellschaft mbH, Düsseldorf.

Lord Mayor Reinhard Paß showed that he was very satisfied: "I am impressed by the abundance of innovative ideas from the offices. The unanimous decision of the jury entails a gigantic step forwards with regard to a very, very important project - also in view of the significance of Messe Essen to Essen as an economic location."

"My thanks go to all the participants for the constructive and partnership-based cooperation which has guided us right up to the competition," according to Frank Thorwirth, Chairman and CEO of Messe Essen. "The result shows that the participants in the competition have understood the stringent requirements of our fair business. The basis for the detailed planning for a modern fair site suitable for the future has been formed in this way."

In cooperation with Grundstücksverwaltung der Stadt Essen (GVE - "Real Estate Administration of the City of Essen") and in agreement with the City of Essen, Messe Essen had invited submissions for the two-phase competition from all over Europe in the spring of 2012. The object of the competition was the modernisation of a large proportion of the existing fair site by constructing a pioneering ensemble and integrating this into its surroundings during ongoing operations. The new buildings should create the space for attractive fairs and congresses and other events in an innovative and, at the same time, economically viable form and, while doing so, should give a contemporary answer to the obvious aim of sustainable construction.

49 architects took part in the open application procedure for participation. 28 offices were selected in the first phase and elaborated their drafts in May and June 2012. Out of the 26 submitted works, the jury selected seven drafts on July 2, 2012 to be processed further in the second phase. The winners have now been established from amongst these seven drafts. Precisely also against the background of the high complexity of the competition task, all the submitted drafts were characterised by a notable quality and diversity of ideas. Thus, each individual draft constituted an important contribution to the discussion and supported the development process of the project in the two-phase nature of the competition procedure.

All 26 works submitted in the first phase, including the seven works selected from these for the second phase, will be publicly exhibited in the foyer of Messehaus West on November 9 - 25 and can be inspected there from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays. During the opening times of the municipal administration, it will also be possible to see the three victorious drafts in the town hall until November 28.

The congress and fair are focussing on the fields of analysis, remediation, demolition, waste disposal, occupational safety and health and prevention. The organisers of both fairs are counting on synergetic effects and overarching specialised subjects. The organiser of the DCONex is AFAG Messen und Ausstellungen GmbH and the patron is Gesamtverband Schadstoffsanierung e.V.

The web-based guidance system was designed by DB Schenker in cooperation with AXIT, a software developer specialising in logistics. It offers exhibitors, stand construction companies and transport service providers fast and organised logistics on the fair grounds: they can book specific time windows - so-called time slots - online for loading and unloading activities in the run-up to an event.

The time slots can be varied and are designed to suit the expected loading and unloading times. Designed as supply chain event management (SCEM), the workflow can react particularly well to special incidents, such as delays owing to traffic jams.

Unnecessary long waiting times and diversions on the stand construction and dismantling days are avoided through accurate guidance of the trucks over the fair grounds. In addition to savings for the forwarding companies, the organised traffic situation and the rapid overall processing permit reductions in noise and CO2 emissions.

The new guidance system is being initially used at selected events and after an evaluation and analysis we will it at more events. The time slot control system has been available to exhibitors at the REIFEN 2012 since 2 May.

As the name suggests, this new event will focus on all large capacity machines (over 500cc) - from high performance sport bikes to tourers, adventure sports, enduro, cruisers and custom builds. The show offers a new concept to both the industry and to motorcycle owners delivering a trade only day (May 10th 2013) and two public days (11th and 12th May 2013). Specially invited exhibitors will be displaying the world’s finest parts, accessories, performance, tuning, service and workshop products.

The exhibition will host the acclaimed AMD (American Motorcycle Dealer) European Championship of Custom Bike Building, which brings together the best custom built bikes in Europe to become European Champion, with the opportunity to go on to compete at the World Championships held at Sturgis, South Dakota, USA.

Big Bike Europe is organised by Dealer World, the publishers of the worlds most influential and respected international motorcycle industry trade publications.

The Choice of Messe Essen for the show places the event at the heartland of large motorcycle ownership in Europe, within easy range of a huge proportion of Europe’s 500cc plus riders. With its excellent road and transport infrastructure and world class Expo facilities, Essen provides the ideal location for BIG BIKE EUROPE.

This should serve to create replacements for Halls 4 to 12 and for the East Fair House in the form of four new, spaciously designed large halls together with foyer and congress areas. "With this package, we have set the future suitability of one of our most important economic promotion instruments, Messe Essen, on secure foundations," according to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Essen, Lord Mayor Reinhard Paß.

The council's resolution plans to provide Messe Essen with a bond for a maximum of Euro 100 million in order to put it into a position to take up on the capital market the borrowed capital required for the financing of the forthcoming investments. In the next step, the upper regional authority must then give its consent.

Due to the examination and adaptation of the company organisation as well as the implementation of a savings and efficiency programme, Messe Essen has, in the last two-and-a-half years, already been successful in internally initiating far-reaching restructuring measures for the reorganisation of the company. The council's resolution has now also created the basis for refurbishing the site structure.

The plans which are to be specified in more concrete terms now are based on the "East Portal Variant" draft elaborated by GVE (Grundstücksverwaltung Essen GmbH). In addition to the possibility of modular implementation during the ongoing operations of the fairs, it simultaneously offers the advantage of a new, attractive town planning appearance of the fair site in relation to the Rüttenscheid district of the city. "Thus, the fair site is now becoming visibly more modern to the outside as well. We thank everybody who has collaborated in this difficult process constructively and with a lot of commitment," is the happy statement made by Frank Thorwirth, Chairman and CEO of Messe Essen GmbH.
